Unilateral Direct Dump
In Toy Story 3, Barbie meets Ken and they immediately hit it off. Barbie decides that she wants to live with Ken in the Butterfly room while her friends have to be in the room with the toddlers. When Barbie finds out that Ken is a part of the dictatorship and is an agent in helping to keep her friends in harms way, she decides that it is time to break-up. According to Guerrero (2011), "The most common direct communication strategy is the simple statement that the relationship is over."(23)
Catastrophe Theory
Another way that the break-up between Barbie and Ken can be viewed is as the Catastrophe Theory. According to the Guerrero (2011), "The catastrophe theory suggests that relationships break up in a radically different way; they do not gradually unwind through stages of relational dissolution, but instead via sudden death."(24) The break-up was extremely sudden, Barbie did not give more than a thought to it, she simply said it was over and they went their separate ways.
