Lee's Love Styles
In Toy Story 3, a romance blooms between Buzz and Jessie. According to Lee's Love Styles, "People have various ideologies when it comes to love. These ideologies can be thought of as collections of beliefs, values, and expectations about love." (3) When Buzz gets his batteries reset, his personality changes and he forgets his past. Buzz begins to display one of the most common love styles. Buzz sees Jessie talking to Woody and immediately becomes jealous of Woody and assumes the worst. Lee stated that, "The manic style is a combination of eros and ludus. Manic lovers tend to be more demanding, dependent, possessive, and jealous than people with other love styles." (4)
Expression Of Love
In William Pollock's book, Real Boys, Pollock describes two reasons relationships go unnoticed. He found that boys and men have very different ways of expressing their care for one another as well as their care for the opposite sex. Men tend to express their affection by doing things for others. (5)
The audience sees this idea played out time and time again. Woody does not ever state how much he loves Andy. Instead, Woody shows his care over and over again by doing everything in his power to make sure that he is there whenever Andy needs him. Woody goes through three long and tiring adventures to ensure that he is always there when Andy needs him.
